Pretender – ‘a person who claims or aspires to a title or position’
– ‘a pretender to the throne’
Although the groups name suggests an unjustified claim, the ‘Pretenders’ quickly became rock/pop royalty in Britain during the 80’s; their charismatic frontwoman Chrissie Hynde immediately setting them apart.
This post was initially inspired by the death of a French icon Brigitte Bardot – I immediately thought of a lyric in the ‘Pretenders’ song ‘Message of Love’ – ‘When love walks in the room / Everybody stand up / Oh, it’s good, good, good / Like Brigitte Bardot’
A fitting tribute.
However, I have chosen to feature my favourite Pretenders song ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ (1986). The video is a homage to the classic 1960’s British spy series ‘The Avengers’. I haven’t a clue what’s going on, but it’s great fun!
