‘Lucian Freud and Kate Moss in Bed’ a 2010 photograph by David Dawson

I love this picture! It brings together the worlds of Art and Fashion; Painter and Muse. Above all, it is a very touching testament to an unlikely friendship – between one of our greatest painters Lucian Freud and the iconic British supermodel Kate Moss. Two exceptional people captured, with such spontaneity, in Freud’s residence and studio in West London.

I love the un-staged naturalness of it and how it captures the tenderness of their unique bond.

Freud admired Moss’s ‘wildness’ of spirit, while Moss admired Freud’s ‘power’; here though the old painter looks rather vulnerable, stuck in bed after an accident with a horse.

What was it like to be painted by Freud? I love the quote found in the following short clip:

‘Being in his company was a bit like sticking your finger into an electrical socket!’
