The acting career of Jeremy Irons spans television, stage and screen.
Sitting in front of the television, I remember eagerly awaiting the next episode of ‘Brideshead Revisited’. He left such a mark, that he will always be Charles Ryder to me.
Then, I saw him on the London stage, in the play ‘Embers’. Based on a novel by the Hungarian writer Sandor Marai, a literal translation of the original title would be: ‘Candles burn until the end’ – there are some emotions and impressions in life that will always remain with you. Appropriate, for a performance that, indeed, I will always remember.
Then, there is the big screen. I have just finished watching ‘Reversal of Fortune’. Based on real events, Irons stars in the role that gained him an Oscar, playing Claus von Bulow, initially convicted of murdering his wife. Impenetrable, complex and dare I say it, wickedly charming, he gives the kind of performance that only a great actor can – you can’t look away.
