I love the idea that the seeds of words and ideas can be blown far afield to take root and bloom in the most unexpected of places.
Imagine my delight in discovering that in Edinburgh, Scotland there is a book club ‘Zielony Balonik’ (‘The Little Green Balloon’) named after a salon of Polish artists and writers who would meet in Krakow’s ‘Jama Michalika’ cafe at the turn of the 20th Century.
I remember many happy evenings in ‘The Green Balloon’ (as this cafe has become affectionately known); its walls still covered in the art of those young and daring Polish artists.
As for the Scottish bookclub of the same name, the only entry requirement is an enthusiasm and interest in Polish Literature and Culture. It’s safe to say I would be accepted!
