As a teenager I used to dance and watch dance more often than I do now. I still remember seeing a classical dance company perform contemporary ballet to the pop/rock music of Paul Simon. Ever since, I have always responded to the unexpected combination of pop with more classically based dance forms. Perhaps it is unsurprising then, that Kate Bush became my favourite artist.

With something of Kate Bush about it, this is a fan-made video to ‘Is My Love Enough?’ by ‘White Lies’. ‘White Lies’ are a rather underrated band from Ealing, London.

A vision in white, looking as if she has just escaped a Victorian insane asylum (perhaps it’s the nightdress and exceptionally long hair) I find this video mesmerising. Dafne Yulissa combines naturalness and emotion with great precision of movement.

I also love the strangely ‘off’ surroundings – like Alice Through the Looking Glass – only in Mexico!

Everything is so knowing and ironic these days that I love to see both a song and an interpretation of it that is so genuine and earnest. The band obviously recognise its quality too, making it their official, unofficial video.
